FACS - Grains Lab

In FACS we have been learning about the 6 Basic Nutrients, one of which is Carbohydrates. To study this a little further, the students made pancakes with the option of adding chocolate chips or fruit. I think most of them choose chocolate - I would have too:)

A friend of mine who teaches elementary school stopped by for some of B2
The boys loved her of course!

CTE - Agriculture Careers

In CTE we were studying Agricultural careers a week ago. Students made posters about their given careers

Homemade Play dough

Tomorrow in FACS we will be using homemade play dough. It wasn't too hard to make, pretty quick, and all natural. Try out the recipe at home!

Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup water
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/3 cup salt
1 Tablespoon veg. or canola oil
food coloring

1. Mix together all the ingredients, except the food coloring, in a medium saucepan
2. Cook over low/medium heat, stirring continuously
3. Once it begins to thicken, add the food coloring
4. Continue stirring until the mixture is much thicker and begins to gather around the spoon
5. Remove from heat, cool on a plate or wax paper

*I made two fist-size balls from this recipe, so it does make a lot

Wednesday Flex

If you have a colored card for Wednesday Flex, please join me and a few other teachers in the gym to do some dancing! We teach dances from America and countries around the world. Today was an American dance in honor of Patriotic Week. Next we are planning on doing a dance from India!

See you there!

9th Grade Foods - Lab #2

In the Foods Lab #2 we made:
Mini Chicken 'n Broccoli Bakes
Caramel Popcorn
Apple Dump Cake

Everyone was able to try a little bit of each recipe. I think most students were surprised that they liked the chicken & BROCCOLI bake, although I did see some students pick out anything green. The salsa is a recipe from my family, and was a favorite of course. The Caramel Popcorn was a challenging recipe, but both classes did a good job, with just a bit of toasted kernels;). The Apple Dump Cake was fast, easy, and pleasing to everyone.

Thanks students, we did a lot in this lab!
